Red Dell – This is our Story

We are a team committed to both changing the landscape and keeping the environment how we found it. Our unique business model combines a superhero team, the latest and greatest machinery, and progressive digital systems. We are a “Modern Contractor” that engages as a partner working on the bigger project goals rather than a service provider delivering to specification. We’re known for our ability to solve problems on the job to keep things moving.

Red Dell are Northland’s civil contracting and earthworks specialists. We design and deliver solutions for civil, commercial and renewable energy. Our team has the technical expertise and resources to form sites and we preserve nature and design beauty into each one. Our clients, from large developers to home builders, farmers who need a new certified accessway, and major corporate project teams, rely on Red Dell and our progressive model to manage compliance and deliver results on time to spec.

Our history

Red Dell’s Managing Director Doug Reddell grew up in a civil engineering family but started his career as a youth worker where he developed a passion for enabling others progression and success. In an international business world, he learnt the skills of professional management and it was in a role as project manager on a large multi-lot subdivision that he conceptualised what he believed would be a truly modern contractor. Doug launched his own business in 2017 with his unique Red Dell model for optimal project delivery. It combines an incubator for people development and wellbeing, with dynamic digital systems, and future-focused resources and machinery to create leading edge civil and electrical contracting capability. Red Dell began with small jobs like driveways and house sites and progressed to roading and major subdivisions as they built the organisation’s capability.

Our Delivery Lead, Phil Powney, has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry. He believed in Red Dell and brought in to the company to become a managing director. Together Phil and Doug expanded their capability to include large scale solar farms and become a specialist contractor in New Zealand’s developing solar energy generation sector. They formed a partnership with local electrical contractor Troy Moon and became part of a team constructing a solar farm in Northland, tagged to improve the whole region’s energy supply and resilience.
